I’m a Melbourne-based strategic designer, researcher and systems change practitioner.
My career hasn’t taken a traditional route, but there has been a lot to learn along the way:
- As a Researcher at the University of Sydney I pioneered the development the System Effects methodology and software platform. I have applied System Effects in partnership with collaborators in dozens of countries to complex challenges across economic development and planning, employment, agriculture and food policy, education, taxation, and social welfare.
- As a Lecturer at UNSW Canberra I taught systems thinking and applied complexity to Australian Defence Force personnel and consulted globally with public sector agencies on the application of systems frameworks to public policy.
- As a Co-Founder of FoodLab Sydney I led the development of an innovative cross-sectoral partnership to address food insecurity in the City of Sydney through small business incubation.
- As a Design Director at the Australian Taxation Office I was responsible for the development of systems-led design, the methodology that supports design teams to more effectively understand and respond to the complexity of the Australian tax and superannuation system.
A Visiting Fellow at UNSW Canberra, I continue to publish academic work on systems thinking and public sector innovation. I am the author of two books, Sustainable Materialism and Crossing Boundaries in Public Policy and Management. My PhD was awarded the Australian Political Studies Association Best PhD Prize and I hold a University Medal in Political Science.
